Ugly
Robert Hoge
Autobiography

Robert was born ugly and with only one and a half legs. He gets the half leg amputated. His whole leg points straight down so he could never get his heel touching the ground. They amputated that one as well so he could actually walk, although not very good to start with. His face had a massive bulge (massive tumour) from the top of his forehead all the way down to where his nose was meant to be. When Robert was born he was the fifth child. His mother's first question was 'Is my baby okay?'. His mother didn't want to have him. She had her first look at her son about a week after he was born. She decided it should be a family decision whether to take him home. Roberts Mum and Dad explained all the problems with Robert and then let them all decide. They all said yes. A month and five days after Robert was born he was finally going home. He starts school very excited. He was still a little bit wobbly on his legs when he started school. When he was going down the stairs to his class Robert saw a boy coming straight towards him. He could either quickly wobble over to the other handrail or just wait for him to knock him over. Robert decided to stay where he was because to get to the other rail it would mean letting go of the first one. The boy came right up to him and linked arms with him. David was friends with Robert right through his school years and probably still is. He got teased for having no 'proper' legs, having a nose made out of his toe and basically just being different.
